Today was a somewhat better day. I had a vivid dream about a big red horse, which is always auspicious. In the dream, I was getting the horse, and a group of Native Americans had come to our church to form a blessing circle for me as the recipient of the horse. I was getting dressed for the ceremony--jeans, boots, and a colorful shirt. I was trying to decide if I should put my knife on my belt. I was worried about bringing a weapon to church, although it was for ceremonial purposes. I was going to sage the participants, then walk around the circle with my hand drum and receive the blessings. I wanted to fulfill my role honorably, but I was worried about appearing to imitate or appropriate a ritual that was not mine. Since the celebrants had volunteered to come and invited me, I thought it was probably all right. The knife, the sage, and the hand drum are all things I actually own. I wish I had that big red horse as well!

I played the violin at the real church. There were only three of us on instruments today. I screwed up a little bit on the first piece, and I was sad. We played it so nicely on the run-through! Ah well. People in the audience didn't seem to notice. It's good for me to keep trying. Today was tattoo day at church. The minister got a dancing Snoopy tattoo, and took the opportunity to invite people to tell their tattoo stories. The Sparrowhawk told his, and read the story for another member who had to be away today. The other guy had been a martial artist, and had a dragon tattoo. But then he had sepsis, with long-term effects that make it impossible to practice his art any more. The Sparrowhawk was designated as a substitute who would understand, as a martial artist himself, what that means. There were some real tearjerkers among those stories. The Sparrowhawk, of course, has a Sparrowhawk tattoo.

I read an article once about how many mistakes happen in live music, and how few are actually noticed by the audience. So you're probably okay!
