It snowed again overnight, and the wind was cutting. After having quite a few difficulties getting in touch with Madame, I was surprised to find her waiting and ready when I got there. We did have a lot of difficulty getting in and out of the car. I felt bad because sometimes I didn't understand what she was trying to do, and gave her "help" instead of actual assistance. But the main thing is that she didn't fall down. She decided to order the same thing as me, which is a bit aggravating, because then I feel conscience-bound to get something she will eat! In this case, a cup of artichoke soup each, and a whole black bean quesadilla that we split. It tasted all right, but wreaked havoc with my poor tummy. Then Madame scampered off to the bathroom, and wandered around on the way back. This time I was on to her, however, and did not need to be paged. She even succeeded in buying one Christmas present: a colorful container of watercolor pencils for her granddaughter. I really needed a new notebook, but didn't quite have enough undistracted time to look for it. We were late getting home, and she dozed off in the car. She asked me "Are you tired?" and I admitted that I was. Then she said she was too. I said we might have overdone it just a bit, and she laughed.

We saw a really tremendous crow flapping and swooping about the parking lot, undeterred by the cold and the wind. He perched on the roof rail of an SUV, threw back his head and uttered some chilling imprecations. When I got home, I was exchanging texts with a friend who said he had also seen an enormous crow! I wonder if something is going on . . . .

It snowed again, more and more heavily, and after much consideration, the Sparrowhawk decided not to go to the gym. He hates to miss it, but after awhile, the weather people started saying things like "stay off the highway." He went down in the basement and exercised there instead. I intended to get more things done this evening, but I didn't. Madame wore me out. We did succeed in choosing a possible train set for Aquinas, pending a consultation with his parents. I think we got the buckthorn removed on the very last day it could possibly have been done, so I'm happy about that.
