ismoI have a red dress that I really like, rayon challis with roses on it. I intended to wear it for Christmas, because it's not appropriate for too many other common situations. However, with one thing and another, I didn't wear it this Christmas. I have been dressing insistently in red everything else, and wearing my red necklace. There's something about red that rolls back the dark grey of winter. But today being Twelfth Night, the eve of the last day of Christmas, and also when Epiphany, the day of the Three Kings, is celebrated, I decided to wear it to church and then pretty much left it on for the rest of the day.
I was feeling tired after last night's extravaganza, and thought today was the potluck, and definitely didn't feel like cooking. However, I had some hot dogs in the freezer, so I thawed them out, thinking no one really turns up their nose at a nice hot dog. They were Nathan's Famous, too, so good quality. At the last minute, I got a call from Strawberry Star to say that she heard potluck was cancelled. She felt bad about it, because she saw that she'd had a text about it earlier this week, and she was worried that I'd gone to a lot of trouble unnecessarily. I assured her there was no harm done. Put the hot dogs back in the refrigerator! No potluck meant our meeting ended while there was still twilight to drive home by. We were happy to chill at home. I ate one of the hot dogs for supper.
I stayed up late to watch the Lions thrash the Vikings with the Sparrowhawk. (There must be a way to construct that sentence so it doesn't sound funny, but I'm too lazy to figure it out . . .) I was perishing with sleepiness and about to crash, so I listened to invigorating music until I woke up. I'm about ready to crash again now. Maybe next year I'll make cakes and have a Twelfth Night party. For now, my solitary mistimed hot dog will have to do.
