We finally took the Christmas tree down. It had become very light. I picked it up with one hand, which rather surprised me. I would have carried it out to the curb, but I didn't have any shoes on. The Sparrowhawk took it out, but the wind blew it onto the sidewalk, and it was still going, so he had to go back and put it in the lee of the garage until trash day. The living room is strangely bereft now. The tree is a presence.

We went out to see some friends later in the afternoon, and holy smokes, it is COLD. It had gone down to about 11 by then. It's a great big 3 now, feels like minus 9. I'm glad we had that furnace part replaced. On the bright side, we headed home between 5:30 and 6, and it still wasn't dark yet. The numbers are sometimes in our favor and sometimes not.

Tron texted us in reply to our earlier offer to drive down there sometime in January to celebrate the January birthdays, if she felt up to it. She's not sure that she will, and would prefer a rain check. She has only two more days of radiation, but she hasn't been feeling great and is not sure how soon she'll recover. I do understand her situation, and I'm just as happy not to make another trip in the near future. Still, I'm disappointed that we won't get to see her.

It's not nearly that cold here - it was 18 this morning when I shoveled, and is now 25. Bright sun.
