I played hooky today, as the windchill was -14 this morning, and the streets were very slippery. I did not feel it was the best time for the almost 74 year old to take the 86 year old out on a lark. I both called and texted Madame, and texted Mademoiselle, to let them know. I expected to have some conversation with Madame later today, but she never picked up nor replied. Neither did her daughter. This makes me a little worried that something may have happened, but probably it's just disregard of their devices on both their parts.

I was out last night to see a few friends, and I didn't enjoy driving around then. Most people are going carefully, but there were a few who had trouble getting up hills and so forth. My friends surprised me with a little cake and the birthday song as well as a sweet card. It almost made up for the bitter chill and windblown snow flurries!

At any rate, I was quite happy to stay home today. I thought I would get a lot done, and determined that the first thing to do was to complete an interview I agreed to do ages ago, in regard to the ERB book. I had finished the written portion, but hit a gumption trap when it came to attaching pictures. I was sure I could do it . . . Oh dear. It's meant to be so simple, but in practice it is no such thing. I was telling a friend recently that when any given question arises for me, I automatically feel that the first thing to do is get a PhD on the subject--or the equivalent--and then address the question. In this case, I would have had to take a whole tutorial on embedding pictures. It might have been faster than my trial and error method. It took HOURS, because I kept screwing it up and having to start over. When I finally thought I was done, I sent it off, but I'm by no means sure that it will go through in the proper form. I just had to leave it alone for now, and have something to eat. The Sparrowhawk tried to restore my spirits with an early birthday gift of chocolate--which turned out to be frozen solid from being concealed in the mud room!--and an episode or two of Pride and Prejudice.
