It snowed a couple more inches overnight, so we started the day by shoveling ourselves out once again so we could go to church. Just before we left, the Sparrowhawk got a message from his brother Fritz, who was planning to drive to this side of the state and wondered if he might stop in during the afternoon. He couldn't arrive until 3-ish, but when he heard that we were going to the potluck, he decided to come with us. He drove his own car so he could leave directly from there, as it is close to the highway. We were sorry not to spend more time with him, but we enjoyed his visit while it lasted, and had a chance to introduce him to some of our friends. Obviously, I couldn't bring beef stew, but we had a couple dozen hot dogs in the freezer, so I heated those up and offered hot dogs, buns, and condiments. They disappeared fast enough.

After the snow, the air temperature rose above freezing. The combination of warmer air over snow-covered ground created a thick fog. It wasn't too bad in the daylight, but on our way home, it was darker and denser and not really fun. We were glad to be home and done with our social calendar for the day! For dessert last night, I made a recipe my mother used to use called Half a Pound Cake--only I made a double recipe, so it was a whole pound cake. But I baked it in two separate pans, because I wasn't sure how long it would have to cook in one pan. My original thought was the bring the second and somewhat smaller cake to the potluck, after serving the bigger one to the guests last night (along with berries and whipped cream). I changed my mind. There wasn't much left of the first cake either. I felt the second one wouldn't go far at the potluck anyway . . . so maybe it would be nice to just wrap it up and keep it for later. Cake has a way of coming in handy.

Mmmm, future cake! I like to individually wrap slices of banana bread for the freezer for Future Me.
