Cascade of Trill
Apr. 18th, 2018 11:02 pmToday there was a little bit of sun, and I'm feeling better, even though I'm still not sleeping very well because my knee hurts. It's a stabby kind of pain that is not at all conducive to relaxing. I tried Advil on it, but it didn't work. I'm hoping it will go away soon. We're getting down to the wire on preparing for the onslaught, so all was cheerful bustle as we continued to clean things and cook things. I'm waiting for the bread to come out of the oven now.
Sadly, the Nipper texted us to say that he and his family won't arrive tomorrow as planned. They won't get here until after dinner on Friday. I assume it's a work thing, alas. So that's one dinner down. But we already thawed the chicken, so I guess we'll just have a lot of leftovers. Plans for dinner on Friday continue apace, even though it will be for only 9 people plus stragglers, instead of 12.
The Duchess visited my mother and helped her pack. Her help was appreciated and greatly needed. According to my mother, they had a serious talk about how she needs to wear disposable undies and stop washing her things out in the bathroom sink and then wearing them again. This was not appreciated by my mother, who was feeling very oppositional about it. She doesn't like being bossed around. As I usually do, I commiserated and then suggested maybe she could give the new regime a try, because it might turn out better than it originally seems. I do understand how every little bit of autonomy is precious at this point, even if it makes no sense to the disapproving bystander. But I also sympathize with the Duchess, who is horrified by the potential for germs and just wants Mother to be cared for better than she would care for herself. I'll be satisfied if I can get her to eat more than half a sandwich and keep her from falling down the stairs while she's at my house!
