Aug. 1st, 2025 07:49 pmThursday: would have liked to take it easy, but instead I hustled around in the morning, prepping the bathroom and surrounding area for the arrival of plumbers to look at the leaky faucet. Then we went to see Fantastic Four, which turned out much better than I expected. The Sparrowhawk loved it so much he cried. When we got home, I had a brief Zoom with a friend, then fixed kielbasa, potatoes, broccoli and salad, and had dinner while trying to reread the appendices for the child protection protocols, then went to a meeting with the child protection team that lasted until 9:30, and drove home the long way, because they've taken all the surface off the road I usually take, so I must now take the detour seriously.
So today was my second chance to take it easy. I sort of did, but I still don't feel great. I spent the morning catching up with some correspondence: two sympathy cards and a get well card. This seems to be the stage of life we're in! One of the sympathy cards was a handmade thing where I wrote out a blessing from the Celtic Devotional for a friend who just lost her dog. When Inky the devil cat died, I was ridiculously sad, considering that I always thought I didn't even like her. After all, she was with us for 16 years, and I eventually became fond of her--though I'm pretty sure she never changed her mind about ME! I used to read this blessing over and over while weeping, and it comforted me. I hope it will be of some help to my friend.
It rained hard Wednesday night, and now the weather is pleasantly summery, instead of sultry and hot. However, the weird Canadian smoke haze is back, and the air quality is still poor, so I suppressed my desire to go outside and carry on with the work that our young friend was doing on Wednesday.
