BeachDay of Simmer
Aug. 7th, 2025 07:54 pmWe decided that what we needed today was a beach day. We got started later than preferred, because I was up for a long time in the middle of the night and so I slept kind of late. But it's interesting how much faster we can get ready when it's just us. I made us a sandwich to share and took some trail mix, and put the Sparrowhawk's current light reading ("Medieval Philosophy Volumes 1 and 2, Albert the Great to Duns Scotus," from Coplestone's History of Philosophy) into a Ziploc bag, because it is an ancient treasured paperback. The water was much colder than it was back in July when we went with the kids, but not too cold for me to enjoy. The Sparrowhawk was less enthusiastic, but he did come in for awhile. At the park we went to, there were too many noisy boats for my liking. But the colors of the water were amazingly varied and beautiful, with a delicate haze in the most subtle hues of rose and indigo shading the horizon. Schlepping our own chairs and whatnot is more tiring than it used to be, so now we are ready to drink a lot more ice water, have some ice cream, and go to bed.
