I'm very tired and glad to be home. All went as well as could be expected. Yep, it's the Wound Care clinic for us again. The doctor said there was dead tissue, which requires debridement to allow the healthy skin to regrow, and only the Wound Clinic can do these specialized procedures. Sadly, the Wound Clinic is about as far from my mother's place as you can get and still be in the same county. The Duchess and I know the drill from the last time around. The doctor sent in a referral to them, and they will call us back with an appointment. Meanwhile, the staff where she lives can continue cleaning with sterile saline and bandaging as they have been doing. My mother will be taking Keflex as a precautionary measure.

She told me that she had been very worried about this appointment, though she didn't say why. Anyway, it apparently turned out to be less daunting than she feared, and she perked up to an astonishing degree afterward. I had brought sandwiches to share with her, because I knew we'd be too late for lunch in the dining room. However, she said she wanted to go out, and chose the barbecue joint, where she ate pulled pork with mac and cheese. She is a trip. I enjoyed my pulled pork with pit beans and collards. SO much tastier than what I usually get in the dining room.

I felt as if I should stay and keep her company, but I was tired, and so was she. She must have had a nap, because she didn't pick up when I called to say I was home, but she did call back at TEN PM. I told her I didn't know they stayed up so late at her residence. As I said, she is a trip. I just hope we can get this thing cleared up again. It may be a long haul, and I don't want her to get discouraged again. I brought two firm, flat foam pillows with me and left them there for her to use in elevating her leg. VERY important. The Sparrowhawk had been mowing the lawn in my absence. He needed a nap too. Later, we went for a walk in the twilight. The whole neighborhood is perfumed with flowering trees and lilacs. The drive up the country highway that takes me back to the interstate was so beautiful--everything is green now. The oak trees are blooming. The sky was blue with picture-book white clouds. It was the kind of day when my parents would have delighted in a drive in the country. My heart was sad that they couldn't go with me.
