Sometimes I feel as if I'm sleepwalking. It would be nice to wake up and discover that I can move fast and effectively after all. I went up and down stairs a lot, moving things from where they didn't belong to where (hopefully) they do. I did two loads of laundry. I wrote a bunch of Christmas cards and helped the Sparrowhawk with ordering some necessary items. The guys who put our siding on came and fixed a piece that had come loose in the recent weather. I gave them the rest of the lemon cake. There was just enough for a piece for each of them to take with them in a baggie. I felt kind of silly, but it was all I had, and it was a cold icy day for them to be up on a ladder. I felt I should show some kind of appreciation. Now I will have to make some more cake.

We canceled two social gatherings that were going to take place this week. One was to be at our house, and I really regretted not being able to do it. We're worried about Tron. There's no guarantee she'll be able to come anyway. We're in great suspense about whether she'll feel well enough. But we didn't want to do anything that might jeopardize her visit by exposing her to other people's germs. I ordered some gluten free cookies for the Redhead.

My one minor triumph of the day was to help the Sparrowhawk bring in the bags of road salt he got at the hardware store. He bought two 50-pound bags, because when he got one, the guy at the hardware store said he expected to be sold out by the end of the day, so the Sparrowhawk thought he'd better get a good supply now. But then he had the bags in the back of the car, and very wisely decided he couldn't trust himself to wrangle a 50-pound bag while negotiating the ice on the driveway. I suggested we get a large cardboard box--of which there's more than one in the garage, ahem--put the bag into the box, and then slide the box along the ice and into the garage. It worked like a charm, with no damage to the Sparrowhawk. Then I demonstrated how to decant the salt into a usable container with which he could scatter it on the walkway. Problem solved.

i love me a good life hack: rock salt in a cardboard sled: genius! bonus that cardboard sleds were readily to hand.

I am going to keep the box trick in mind for when I need it.
