LilyPond of Bliss
May. 18th, 2018 09:55 pmI'm in my happy place--at the Big Lake. The Sparrowhawk is taking a photography workshop, and I came up with him, though I won't be spending much time with him because he'll be out taking pictures and learning about cameras. We got here early enough to take our picnic lunch out to the state park and sit by the river, and then walk on a short trail that goes up to the top of a big dune that overlooks the lake. We were up among the treetops and got to see the whitish-green flowers of the oak trees up close, with their leaves just bursting out of their bud-wrappings like baby animals emerging from a caul.
We had a quick supper in town, and then the Sparrowhawk went to the opening session of his workshop. I walked down to the city beach and sat at the edge of the water. The lake was very calm today. I watched the little waves roll in, silvered with evening light, and then a terrific sunset. It's not quite as much of a happy place as usual, because I'm feeling sadly debilitated by the past few months. I can't throw myself energetically into all-day hikes as I once could. I have to take it easy and build up my strength again. But it's still good to be here, and I know all the easy places to go, as well as the hard ones. I'm feeling more cordial toward the Buddha today, and if I met him on the road, I'd give him directions to the beach.
