I'm feeling better today, because the tree service showed up at 9 am and took a look. He was very apologetic for not coming earlier, but I think he is really not to blame. No one could have taken the tree down in the middle of such a windstorm anyway. He said they could not plan to take out the tree as it is now until Consumers Energy made sure the tree was not "energized," i.e. in contact with live wires. Fortunately, Consumers Energy showed up while he was still there and said nope, not their wires. They were three big guys with two big trucks, and they scoffed jovially at my little problem, which they left to the tree service since our power was still on. Then they roared off on their mighty steeds to succor other victims who were in worse shape than us. The tree service guy said his team would come back on Thursday to deal with our tree and the tree in the neighbor's yard upon which it rests. I hope the storm we're supposed to have between now and Thursday will not wreak any further havoc with this troublesome tree. It will cost us buckets of money.

I watched the livestream of my friend Jeff Carver's funeral this afternoon. It was a lovely funeral, as funerals go. I would have liked to be there in person. But it was poignant and rather emotional. I was still a little teary when I went downstairs to move the laundry around and discovered that we have some water leakage in our basement. This isn't supposed to happen, since we paid buckets of money to have a guaranteed dry basement. SIGH. I had to put it out of my mind until tomorrow, however, because we were about to go to a Star Trek themed birthday party.

Bounced from one emotion to another! We had so much fun at the party. Math Fairy is turning 60, and belongs to a large and enthusiastically nerdy family. We entered a lower door at her house and were ushered into the costuming room, where one of her sons helped each guest find appropriate garb. The Sparrowhawk already had his Picard shirt, and I might add that he looks extremely handsome in uniform. I was given the uniform shirt and insignia of a lieutenant of engineering. Then we passed through a mock transporter and ascended upstairs to the captain's quarters, where all kinds of games and snacks were available. All the guests were in uniform, and they all looked great. We played a few games of poker and I won once. I drank a couple of glasses of blue beverages passed off as Romulan ale. We had a tasty dinner and a spectacular cake. It was really a great time. The remaining guests were getting ready to play another game, but sadly, we needed to leave before the end. My captain was getting tired. We have descended to earth, and I will have to deal with the soggy carpet tomorrow.

I'm glad you were able to attend the funeral, even virtually.

That Star Trek party sounds AMAZING.
