Easter of Trill
Apr. 5th, 2026 08:31 pmWe got a decent amount of sleep last night, so we were able to get up and go to church at 9! The place was jammed. We found a parking spot at the back of the lot, and the usher found us a place to sit, close to the front. The Sparrowhawk had been hoping for just one good Easter hymn, and he got that. I was disappointed not to be able to have a nice if quick breakfast when we got home, because the Sparrowhawk's food window had closed. So I made him a bacon sandwich to eat when the window opened again, right before we had to leave for the Duchess's house. I wanted to leave my church clothes on and be fancy, but I went out in church clothes and rubber boots to pick daffodils and hellebores to make a bouquet for the Duchess, and it was FREEZING. I quickly changed into something with pants, long sleeves, and woolly socks. The Sparrowhawk has repeatedly complimented my color choices, so I will tell you it was yellow pants, a green linen shirt with a scarf that's green with yellow fireflies, teal socks, and my enamel earrings that look like little golden Easter eggs. We also brought with us a box of chocolates for Drs. Nurse and Music, a chocolate bunny for Bird Baby, and a smaller box of chocolates for the Duchess and Duke.
We had a lovely time visiting. The Duchess cooked venison for us--not the Duke's deer, because he didn't get one this year, but one that a friend gave him. Dr. Nurse and family were a little late arriving, so by the time we sat down to eat the timing was off again for the Sparrowhawk. The Duchess very kindly warmed everything up for him when he was able to eat it. After dinner, the sky cleared to an intense blue, and the sun came out. We went out in the back yard and watched Bird Baby find the Easter eggs her grandparents had hidden for her. I drove home, because in spite of putting forth his best efforts--or maybe because of that--the Sparrowhawk was rather tired by the end of the day. We really had our Easter all week, with the joy of seeing so much family.
