WhiteCarrot of Bloom
Jun. 25th, 2018 10:09 pmStill in limbo with Mother's care protocol. Mr. Science sent his admonitory letter. He requested a response in writing. He got a phone call from the nurse manager, in which she reiterated that the Ace bandage was a mistake and she apologized for it, and said that as for putting silver nitrate on my mother's wounds, she'd never heard of such a thing and they didn't even have it on hand. Hmmm. Then the Duchess arrived this morning to take Mother to the gastroenterologist. Did she have a pressure stocking on? NO. "Her leg was badly wrapped in an Ace bandage," according to the Duchess. So that's three days in a row that she has not had a pressure stocking on. And yet, the nurse manager swears they are following the doctor's orders. Both of these things cannot be true. Mr. Science is pursuing an answer.
Meanwhile, I'm not sleeping well. I had another bad dream, woke up in a panic, and couldn't go back to sleep because my stomach hurt, and I was worried about my mother. I've dreamed of both snakes and demons, my most unfavorite things, in one week.
This morning didn't go quite as I'd hoped. I got up late and was slow, due to lack of sleep. Yesterday, we were enjoying sitting in our back yard reading. I glanced up, toward the back of the yard, and woe betide me, what should greet my eyes but MY NEMESIS--okay, one of my numerous nemeses--a stealth poison ivy vine sneaking up one of the pine trees. So my time outside today was limited to bushwhacking gingerly through the shrubbery to examine the situation. There's a pretty thick vine that snaked around the back of the tree and is now unfurling its leaves 10 or 15 feet up. It has just started to send tendrils out toward the back fence, so it is not yet a complete infestation, but it soon will be if we don't destroy it immediately. We'll have to hire a poison ivy removal service, because I'm not letting the Sparrowhawk anywhere near this devil's spawn of a plant, and I am certainly not going near it myself. Another expense, but a necessary one. Now that I've been amongst it again, I definitely want to take down the shrubbery as well. So . . . much . . . work . . . . Then I had to come inside and scrub my face and arms with TecNu just in case I'd accidentally touched the demon vine.
Then it got hot, and I didn't want to go for a walk. I went out alone after the Sparrowhawk came home from the gym and I'd finished calling my mother. The air had cooled and felt pleasant. The almost full moon was up in a sky still blue, and brightened gradually as the sun sank. I saw rabbits and robins hopping in the grass, and wildflowers blooming in the wetland preserve on the nuns' property. I was in a lot of pain from my achy joints, which was not fun at all, but I distracted myself by composing a spirited speech that I would like to have delivered to the staff at the assisted care. I wonder if their ears tingled!
