Jul. 2nd, 2018 10:00 pmPursuant to my apparent plan to do everything wrong yesterday, I went to bed late and didn't get enough sleep again. I dreamed that Anne Frank survived the war, and wrote in her diary, "The gates of hell are opened, and those who come out can't help but embrace each other in joy."
So I was not awake enough to get to the gym this morning, which was my original idea, but I did go for a walk, and the Sparrowhawk went with me. It was still hot today, but not as bad as yesterday, so walking was still pleasant in the morning. Later, I wrote 1500 words, somewhat to my own surprise. I partially cleaned the bathroom and made the bed. The plumber came and installed new faucets in the hall bathroom. It was fortunate that he had some of an old-fashioned make, because our house is 75 years old, and the Sparrowhawk values its authenticity. The plumber confirmed that the tile in the bathroom is original. The walls are very thick plaster over lath, so it was fortunate that he could do it all without making holes in the wall. He worked carefully for a long time, and we appreciate him. He also replaced the outside faucet so it will stop leaking all the time. He did that, too, without having to cut a hole in the basement ceiling as he originally thought! Tomorrow the poison ivy SWAT team will arrive. I picture them in hazmat suits with a flamethrower, but it probably won't be that dramatic. All this is costing us money, but it's taking care of things that need to be done. And there actually was some money left in the discretionary fund last month, so it's not too bad.
Clearly, it was a better day, though I'm not sure I can take credit for that. On the walk, I saw some bindweed in the grass and was inspired to sing "Misalliance," by Flanders and Swann. It's charming and quite a propos for the current era, so that cheered me up a bit. We have the LP of "At the Drop of A Hat" in our boxes somewhere, as well as their album of Tolkien songs, which is an inducement to get busy and sort out those boxes!
"We'd be loving and inseparable
Inextricably entwined--we'd
Live happily ever after
Said the honeysuckle to the bindweed!"
