Thanks for all the kind messages. The Sparrowhawk is feeling better today, although his eye is still mostly swelled shut. He naps a lot, but he has improved to the point where I can do things to take care of him, like bringing him big glasss of water and making sure he eats at regular intervals so he can take his pain medication. I dashed over to the pharmacy and picked up the antibiotic eyedrops he needs but couldn't get yesterday, and finally got a drop into his eye, though it was a struggle. This is easier on me than not being able to do anything but watch over him anxiously.

I went out for a quick walk while he was napping. The heat is back, but there's a late-summer feeling in the air now, a feeling of completion, yet a feeling of anticipation, waiting for the change. The leaves of the oaks and black walnuts make so thick a shade that it's almost black, while the willows, aspens and birches gather so much light that they ripple with silver. It's beautiful, but makes me think how the summer is ebbing, and I really didn't have as much fun this year as I wanted to. Summer is supposed to be fun time! I'll have to try to make the best of what's left.

Thanks! All the things I see, hear, and feel seem like a bounty to me, and words are my only way of sharing, so I deploy them as best I can. Autumn could be a second and more fun summer. In Michigan it can go either way--a long, dreamy post-summer, or a fairly brutal pre-winter. We'll hope for the former this year.

I'm glad things are going better. Your walk sounds beautiful; I signed up for a lunchtime "wellness" walk today, though it will be a bit more urban.

Thanks! The Sparrowhawk made coffee himself this morning--a definite sign of feeling better. He still doesn't have much depth perception, but he's able to keep his eye open for longer periods.
