Determined to do a bit better today, I scrubbed the bathtub with diatomaceous earth. This works as well as anything--the bathroom is original to the house, so everything is 70 years old, and never gets completely shiny again. I didn't try to scrub yesterday when the Sparrowhawk was sleeping, because it hurts to get down on my knees, so I'm in there going ARGGHH GRAHH. I picture myself as Hagrid cleaning the tank of one of his arcane marine creatures. Rehung the clean shower curtain and took a shower.

It wasn't very hot today, but it was super humid again. I didn't have the patience for the clammy sweat, so I proposed a mall excursion. This time, we took the Sparrowhawk's book and iPad and my notebook. First we walked around, and then had coffee and I worked while he read and, it must be admitted, snoozed a bit. I forgot that I don't much like the B&N coffee nook at the mall. I forgot my reusable straw. I forgot to tell them "no whip" on the coffee drink. There was an annoying fly. So, not totally successful. Also, my knee is hurting a lot, and so is my foot, so it was a painful trek among all the sales clamoring for our money.

I heard a familiar voice, and looked up to see that the resident odd street person from the old Kava House has apparently moved over to B&N now that Kava House has been sold and gone upscale. The staff there used to treat him very kindly. I hope they're good to him at B&N. He sat down not far from us and I heard him talking to himself: "Sunday, six thirty-one. January, February, Wednesday. Two times forty . . . " He was eating cake and actually looked a bit healthier than the last time I saw him, for which I was glad.

We escaped without buying anything except a signed copy of "A Legacy of Spies," by John le Carre, which the Sparrowhawk wanted and I thought he should have, given that his birthday is coming soon! When we got home, we succumbed to another epic nap. Followed by a disturbing phone call with my mother, but I'll wait to complain about that till I contact the staff tomorrow and see if there's anything to complain about.
