Lampreys of Zenith

I played the violin this morning at church. There were just four of us today--some of the old reliables: me, the flautist, the oboeist, and the cellist. Two woodwinds and two strings, and our young keyboardist, who accompanied us in between rocking her baby who is just a few weeks old. It was easygoing and fun.

We're watching "North Dallas Forty," which is anything but. I wanted to review it, because I'm on a panel about books that are really about writing. I've always believed that "North Dallas Forty" is about writing as much as it is football. "To you it's a business, but to us it has to be a sport. . . . I want some feeling!" I dare a writer to watch O.W.'s locker room tirade after the big game and not feel it somewhere near the heart.
