Nov. 28th, 2018 08:28 pmI turned on the Hallmark Channel, and there was a thing called "A Christmas Homecoming." Hmm. Uniforms. That's not bad. Behold the Master Sergeant home on leave after a traumatic experience, who mysteriously isn't married, and a blonde woman who is a military widow, and . . . holy shit, it's Master Sgt. Michael Shanks. On the one hand, how are the mighty fallen. On the other, he still looks good in uniform, and he can come and renew my faith in Christmas any time. He was talking about his "father," who taught him to fix things, and "it was just the two of us," and I was headcanoning away. You know he was really talking about Jack. Sadly, this wonderful man was dead now and the sergeant was on his own. Now, if only the blonde had been Amanda Tapping instead of the Hallmark Anonyblonde, it would really have been worth watching.
I had a long-delayed eye exam this morning. They have a cool new machine now that takes a picture of the inside of your eye in a flash, so no more drops in your eye and waiting around for it to dilate. And my insurance pays for it. It doesn't pay as much for lenses and frames as the old insurance did, though, so these glasses are phenomenally expensive. They might as well be made of solid gold. I learned that I have the beginnings of a cataract in my right eye, which is why my vision has deteriorated in that eye over the last year. They'll just watch it, and as the doctor cheerfully told me, "when you can't see any more, then come back and make an appointment." These little Easter eggs of aging are no fun.
It was very dark and grey today. Again. I wonder if I have a virus again. I feel hot and achy and I'm completely unmotivated. Tomorrow I'll have to at least go outside and try to walk on the crunchy ice and snow. See if I fall down.
