NarwhalTusk of Ember
Dec. 2nd, 2018 09:00 pmI'm tired and my stomach hurts. I could say why in detail, but perhaps the less said the better. It's all about my mother's cardiac cath tomorrow, and the ensuing flurry of emails and phone calls with my ever-loving blue-eyed (well, partly--my sisters and mother) family. I often feel like a traveler in a foreign land, trying in vain to make myself understood, and tempted to just begin shouting. And yet I am speaking English . . . or I thought I was. Mr. Science has weighed in to say that he will be unable to assist till further notice, because of his recent collarbone surgery. Thank goodness he realizes that he needs to obey his doctors and NOT drive to Michigan.
We went to church early so the Sparrowhawk could put the month's new inserts into the order of service, and I could rehearse the music for the day. We were all kind of scrambling--at one point, I was handed a part to play that turned out to be in a different key from all the others. They were in D flat, and I was in E flat. Oops. It only took about three notes before I realized that this was wrong, and went back to playing the part that was originally in my notebook. However, in the actual performance, it came out quite well, and I was happy with my playing, for a change. Then we had the potluck and congregational meeting, which was mercifully short. Approve the budget--done. The food was simply awful. I've never seen so many lentils and so many watery noodle dishes with nasty non-gluten pasta. (I grew up eating lentils, and I like them--but not like that!) The Sparrowhawk's beans from yesterday are totally vegan, and delicious! I don't know why my fellow congregants are such lousy cooks. It's sad. Even the desserts were pretty bad. I had a bite or two and didn't finish. I'm going to pat myself on the back and say that my quiche was the only really decent food item on the table, and it disappeared almost instantly. I was very, very happy to see that dear Mary B., an older woman who has had trouble eating, had a large slice of it, and the friend who was helping her said it was the only thing Mary specifically asked for. I went to say hi to her and told her I made it just for her. So at least part of the day went well.
