Cricket of Bliss
May. 4th, 2019 09:51 pmToday was sort of halfway to satisfactory. The weather was lovely. Trees are covered in a mist of green that seems to thicken every time I glance at it. We visited the garden store and used up our remaining coupons for mulch--five bags of it. We also bought three colors of trillium, two jack-in-the-pulpits, and some mayapple plants for the shady part where the other trillium already grows. Then we spread the mulch around, and I planted the things while the Sparrowhawk was putting up the fence panels he made for my square veggie beds. My border would be so much more glorious if the varmints hadn't eaten all my tulips. But while I was planting the wildflowers, I was siting right in the midst of the tulips and daffodils, surrounded by the glow of the sun through their petals, like stained glass. It's way different from observing them at a distance.
We watched the Derby, but it was not at all satisfying. Maximum Security made what I thought was a great run, but ended up being disqualified because he supposedly moved out of his lane to the detriment of another horse. I did not agree with this call by the judges, and it made the whole thing just very suboptimal and disappointing.
I made a big chocolate stout cake for the church potluck tomorrow. It's Board of Trustees installation after services, and I will be dying of boredom. Making a gigantic chocolate cake full of eggs, sugar, sour cream, gluteny flour, alcoholic liquid, and chocolate is my way of indicating rebellion. The funny thing is that in spite of everyone's healthful piety, SOMEONE eats all of my cake whenever I make any. I suppose I'm ruining my karma by contributing to their early demise, but hey, I am but an instrument of fate. I bake the cake. Eating it is on them.
I did my laundry, and about time. I was not able to get all the other things done because I am just tired now. I think my living room will be decorated with my parents' stuff until Gabriel blows his trumpet and summons us to leave behind our earthly possessions.
