Yay! Tron and the Lumberjack are here! They arrived just before 7, and we had their favorite pizza waiting--something that has become a tradition since they lived here with us. Last year, we tried to trick the Lumberjack by telling him we had assumed he was tired of pizza and wanted something healthy instead. Then, of course, we brought out the pizza anyway. But he texted from the road "NO TRICKS!" We also had another salad from my garden. I think I'd better finish harvesting the lettuce this week. Now that the hot weather has arrived, it's starting to bolt.

I went for a walk in the morning again. I saw the prettiest hawk! It landed on a tree limb that stretched across the path just ahead of me. We stood and stared at each other for a few minutes. He chirped a couple of times and flirted his tail, then soared off toward the pond, where I assume a buffet of frogs and small birds was being served. I felt I had received a lovely gift.

The problem with walking in the morning on these hot and humid days is that by the time I walk, and de-sweatify myself, and meditate with the Sparrowhawk, and get a bite to eat, I feel I've used the entire day up for a little bit of self-care. This is why I never used to do these things! Because they take too much time! Or maybe it's just that I'm slow. I had a lot of sad dreams and wakings last night, mostly revolving around fears of being old and homeless. Last night I dreamed about arranging funerals all night, so this is an improvement--I guess. I gave up on cleaning the refrigerator, because I didn't get it done until the Sparrowhawk had done the grocery shopping, so now it's stuffed with food. I'll do it next week when the cupboard is bare again. I did finish putting away the laundry.

The Sparrowhawk also stopped by the farmers market and brought me a flat of strawberries! I cleaned and cut four quarts of them today, so we can revel in them while the kids are here. One of our windowsills fell off, some time ago--don't ask me how it fell off! It's a horizontal surface! but one day it just fell--and the stone mason came today to replace it and the one next to it, so they will match. The new ones are made of solid stone rather than concrete, because they didn't have any concrete ones the right size. Our windows are old, and bigger than the normal modern dimensions. Since I was fixing strawberries anyway, I fixed up a little box for him. It was a hot day, and he looked as if he needed a cooling treat. When I offered them to him, he said, "Oh, this is a blessing." Very West Michigan of him! But he was right. The ineffable taste of fresh strawberries is certainly a blessing.
