Katydid of Zenith
Jun. 28th, 2020 09:45 pmMy plan for the day, such as it was, was thrown for a bit of a loop when the Philosopher called to say that he and his Lovely Friend thought they might come to town for a visit. Today. They planned to stay in a hotel, because they are both still working from home, but they felt they needed a change of venue. Of course we told them that was great and we would love to see them. However, the Sparrowhawk delicately mentioned that, you know, the Nipper and family will be arriving tomorrow. The Philosopher had not remembered that. Often, a conversation with the Philosopher will make you question your reality. He's so genuinely perplexed by information you are sure you gave him that you begin to wonder if you actually did, or if that was just your delusion. We really didn't want this to throw him off, because we would be absolutely thrilled to see him, but apparently it did put a monkey wrench in the works, and he said there were "logistical difficulties" although he didn't say what they were, so perhaps something else went amiss too. Anyway, the whole process plus the process of waiting to hear what he thought he was going to do made me run in circles flapping my wings instead of continuing calmly with my plan, as I should have done. It turned out that they were not coming today after all. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe later this week. We will be notified at some point.
I got a few things done, but not much. I finished cleaning the refrigerator. I found out that one of the drawers actually is removable, and when you do remove it, there's a level beneath where all kinds of crumbs and sticky things can find their final repose. Raspberry jam? How the heck did that happen? Oops. Well, it's fine now. Lest you think I'm a terrible person who never cleans anything, my refrigerator is actually pretty good almost all the time. I just wanted to give it a special extra cleaning before I filled it up with things needed by hungry young persons. I typed up most of my story. It's about 6000 words now, and will probably be 7000 by the time I fill in a couple of blank spaces. I made oatmeal. I had to take a nap, and I slept for far too long because my newly-made bed felt so nice and comfortable, and still smelled of cedar from the drawer where I keep the extra sheets. Now I have to help the Sparrowhawk finish our puzzle so we can take it off the table and use the table for company again. Trying hard not to panic . . . .
