Feb. 18th, 2025

This was a too-hectic day, due to our decision to bite the bullet and get new phones, at long last. The manager at T-Mobile was mildly scandalized and kept saying "I sure wish you had come in earlier." He didn't mean earlier in the day--he meant years earlier. But he's got us more or less licked into shape now. He was helpful and efficient, and also quite scenic. He was large and had a beard whose color could really only be described as orange, that arranged itself into mesmerizing ringlets. Also gazeable was his phoenix tattoo, with elaborately shaded and very artistic feathers, somewhat orange to go with the beard. My phone's data transferred pretty fast. The Sparrowhawk's took literally hours. So we had to go home in the middle of that for our scheduled Zoom with Deb and the Prussian. We still hadn't showered or eaten a proper breakfast.

After the Zoom, I had another chat, plus various things . . . And the Sparrowhawk had some tidying to do because some guys were coming over after dinner. And then he had to go back and get his phone. And then he had a speech therapy appointment at four. That's when I hastily cooked the English roast I had thawed out and not cooked yesterday, when Don't Want To was victorious. I heated the oven to 500 degrees, rubbed the meat with a little butter plus sage and rosemary, and put it in for twenty minutes, with some baked potatoes, while I steamed some broccoli and cauliflower. I turned it down to 200 degrees while I took a hurried shower. As soon as the Sparrowhawk came home with the car, I turned off the oven and sliced up some meat. I probably could have turned the oven right off after the first twenty minutes, and it would have been rare, the way I wanted it. But it was medium rare to medium, also acceptable. I never cooked it this way before, and it turned out well. I pointed the Sparrowhawk at the food and jumped in the car to dash to the store. I was going out to celebrate a friend's birthday, and had volunteered to bring the ice cream she wanted. Because I am the pro of ice cream! I know all the best kinds! I got an assortment of various premium flavors so everyone could taste test, and zipped home in time to catch my ride to the party.

The birthday celebration was a great success, and the ice cream was enjoyed by all. I came home and sliced up the rest of the roast thinly so we can use it for sandwiches rather than buying deli meat. I might also make some fajitas. The Sparrowhawk says his mouth is already watering for a roast beef sandwich. I still haven't had time to properly set up my phone, and I may not have time tomorrow, since I'm hoping to take Madame out. This day is a great example of how adding just one thing not in the regular routine sucks all the moxie right out of you. It takes all the running you can do just to stay in the same place! However, we survived and have new phones.
