EmeraldGem of Bliss
May. 16th, 2026 07:49 pmI only got about 15 minutes of time in to work on the garden. I had to catch up with some cooking, and it took longer than I thought. I had suggested the Sparrowhawk could make some of his good stir fry, and he wanted to, but I knew it would take him all day if he had to do the whole thing himself. The fine motor control for all the chopping is a slow process. So I chopped up the onions, celery, peppers, mushrooms, and carrots myself, and put them in litle bowls like they do on TV, and I thawed the chicken and skinned it and cut it up ready to be marinated. He always steams the carrots a little bit first, and I remembered that I had some brussels sprouts that needed to be cooked as well, so I threw those in the steamer too. Then I chopped up some bacon to saute the brussels sprouts with, and thought I'd better cook up the rest of that package of bacon while I was at it.
Before we went to church, the Sparrowhawk marinated and cooked up everything, and made a pot of rice. I'm afraid it might still have been too much for him, because he had to sit down through most of church. But it was great to have dinner all ready to warm up and eat when we got home, and it was delicious as always. We watched the Preakness over dinner. I'm still having annoying fatigue, but I hauled myself back out to the kitchen and cut up my 12 pound pork shoulder, made the spice rub, and coated the pork with it, in preparation for the last potluck of the year tomorrow. Now it can sit in the refrigerator and go into the oven tomorrow. Then we relaxed, had some ice cream, and watched a five-star Grand Prix jump-off where Kent Farrington on Descartes beat out McLain Ward on High Star Hero and Shane Sweetnam on the inimitable James Kann Cruz by fractions of a second. It was much more exciting than the Preakness. While I cannot compare myself to those mighty equine machines, I got almost 7,000 steps today.
